Short answer
What decides the price of a wedding cake?
Bakers in Ghana usually quote a wedding cake as a package, so two cakes that look alike in photos can be very different in price. The main things that move it:
- Number of tiers. Each tier is a separate cake that has to be baked, filled, covered and stacked with support inside. A three-tier cake is far more work than a two-tier one, not just 50% more.
- Size of each tier. A 6, 8 and 10-inch stack feeds many more guests than a 4, 6 and 8-inch one. Ask the baker the size of every tier, not just how many there are.
- Finish. Smooth fondant, sharp buttercream edges, sugar flowers, gold leaf and hand-painted details all take hours. Fresh flowers are cheaper to make but you may pay the florist.
- Flavours and fillings. Different flavours in each tier, fruit fillings or premium chocolate can add to the price.
- Delivery and setup. Tiered cakes are heavy and fragile. Many bakers deliver and set up the cake at the venue themselves, and some charge for it separately. Check whether it's included.
- Date. Saturdays, December and festive weekends book up early, and some bakers charge more for them.
How many tiers do you need for your guests?
Work from your guest list, not from a photo. With thin wedding slices (about 1 x 2 inches), a two-layer round cake serves about 12 people at 6 inches, 24 at 8 inches, 38 at 10 inches and 56 at 12 inches, using Wilton's serving chart. Add the tiers together: a 6, 8 and 10-inch three-tier cake serves about 74.
For a big Ghanaian wedding of 200 guests or more, a cake that size would be enormous. Many couples order a smaller display cake for cutting and photos, plus plain sheet or slab cakes kept in the kitchen to serve. Ask your baker about this; it can cost much less than a huge tiered cake.

What do wedding cakes cost in Accra and Kumasi?
Our wedding cake price page lists every wedding cake price we found this month, with the baker, area and a link to the listing. Prices from Jiji listings are often "from" prices for a basic design, so expect the final quote for your design to be higher.
Wedding planning guides published in Ghana this year give a wider range than the listings we can see: BrideGhana puts wedding cakes at about GH₵800 for a small simple cake up to GH₵8,000 or more for large luxury ones. That fits with what we see: most published prices are for simpler cakes, while elaborate designs are quoted privately.
How do you book a wedding cake baker safely?
- Book early. Popular bakers fill their Saturdays weeks or months ahead.
- Look at real weddings they've done, not just styled photos. Tagged photos from couples and venues are a good sign.
- Ask for a tasting if they offer one, even if you pay for it.
- Get the order in writing: tiers and sizes, flavours, finish, colours, delivery time, venue address and the full price including delivery and setup.
- Pay the deposit to a MoMo account or bank account in the business's name, and keep the receipt. Ghana's Cyber Security Authority warns about fake online shops on Instagram and Facebook that take payment and disappear.
- Agree who is responsible if the cake is damaged in transit, and who collects any stands or plates afterwards.

Questions people ask
How much is a 3-tier wedding cake in Ghana?
In October 2026, three-tier wedding cakes were listed at GH₵1,200 to GH₵4,000. The size of each tier, the finish and decorations can push a quote well above that, so ask for the price of your exact design.
How much is a 2-tier wedding cake in Ghana?
Two-tier wedding cakes were listed at GH₵1,500 to GH₵3,000 in October 2026. A two-tier cake suits a smaller wedding or engagement, or a display cake with extra cutting cakes in the kitchen.
Is fondant or buttercream better for a wedding cake in Ghana's heat?
Fondant holds up better in heat than buttercream, which can soften and slide. Whipped cream is the least heat-tolerant and is not a good choice for an outdoor wedding. If you love buttercream, keep the cake indoors and out of the sun until it's cut.
How far ahead should I order my wedding cake?
As soon as you have a date and venue. Popular bakers book Saturdays and December dates early, and a booking with a deposit is usually what holds your date.
